There are ongoing controversies concerning the way governments have approached the health challenges raised by COVID-19. In this episode of EconoFact Chats, we interview Tom Frieden, former Director of the CDC, to get an expert, scientific take on these issues. Tom addresses questions such as why this pandemic has been particularly deadly, the importance of good governance in slowing its spread, and the need for better primary care, especially in underserved communities. He also highlights what we can do to prepare for the next pandemic.
Before serving as the Director of the CDC from 2009 to 2017, Tom served as the Commissioner of the New York City Health Department from 2002 to 2009. He is currently the President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives, an initiative to prevent epidemics and cardiovascular disease.
